Below 的用法

一、介詞 below 表示方位、數值等「在……下面」、「低於……」之意

1. The sun sinks (或 disappears, goes) below the horizon. 太陽沉落（或消失）在地平線下。

2. Once the yield was below the average. 產量一度低於平均值。

3. It is four degrees below zero now. 現在零下四度。

4. The pressure causes the ice to melt at a temperature slightly below 0℃. 加壓能使冰在微低於 0℃ 的溫度下融化。

5. This is below consideration. 這是不值得考慮的。

6. Most of the energy we use come from below the ground in the form of coal, oil and gas. 我們使用的大部分能量系以煤、石油和煤氣形式出現，都來自地下。（介詞短語 below the ground 作介詞 from 的賓語。）

7. a. Sign your name below the line. 請在橫線下方簽名。

   b. The temperature fell (或 dropped) below zero. 溫度降到零度以下。

8. You are below her in computer programming. 你的計算機程序設計不如她。

9. A major is below a general. 少校低於將軍。

10. There is water about two meters below the surface. 地面下約兩米有水。

11. She lives in the flat below ours. 她住在我們下面的那套單元房子里。（並不是指她住在我們住的單元房子的垂直下方。）

註：注意 below 在方位上僅表示位置低於所提及的事物，而 under 則表示處於垂直線的下面。例如：

1) The river below the bridge is ten meters deep. 橋下這條河有 10 米深。

2) The river under the bridge is ten meters deep. 橋下的河（指橋身正下方的河水）有 10 米深。

二、副詞 below 作「在下」講，注意可做狀語、後置定語和賓語用

1. The working conditions of this device are given below. 這種裝置的操作條件如下所述。（副詞作狀語。）

2. Most uses of multimedia computers will be dealt with below. 多媒體計算機的大多數用途將在下面予以討論。（副詞作狀語。）

3. When a beaker of water is heated from below the water at the bottom becomes less dense (assuming it is above 4℃) and rises. 當從下面對一燒杯的水加熱時，燒杯底部的水，其密度較小（假定在 4℃ 以上），就往上升。（below 副詞作介詞 from 的賓語。）
